Dart Bigger Torsion Bars

Hi guys, I presently have the stock torsion bar on my car (I'm measuring .910in) and I'd like to put bigger torsion bars.

I looked on summit website and they have .810, .890 and .920 torsion bar that fits my car.

I'm guessing that I presently have the .890 torsion bar because they were powdercoated, witch give me .910 when I'm measuring with a dial caliper... (.010 of paint)

Are the .920 torsion a lot stiffer than the .890 ?

I went with /6 T-bars as I wanted to have the front come up and I wasn't worried about carving corners. MrN2oBelvedere would be the guy to answer this I think.

Aren't the I6 torsion bars good for drag racing? I've herd and read a lot of people doing this on their cars.

For the A-bodies 0.810", 0.890", 0.920" from Mopar performance.
the 0.920" would be pretty stiff for the A-body IMO.
Check out the PST torsion bars.

Yes the /6 bars are mostly for the drag guys and they work good for a street SB as well. I got mine from CRT as he is a Mopar Performance dealer.

What are you trying to achieve? If it were me I would go pretty much as big as possible, but want to autocross so that is a different story from normal street duty.

The thing is... I'm living in Quebec .... so the road are pretty rough....

And I want the front end of the car to be pretty low, because I like the look of it ....

And with the stock torsion bars, and the front of the car at a little bit under the stock height.... My driver side header hit the road twice this week ....

That is why I want bigger torsion bars...

Do you think going from .890 to .920 would be enough ?

Its hard to say honestly. Most normal headers I've seen for mopars are sorely lacking in the ground clearance department. I think that if you go too stiff on a rough road you are inviting some other particularly nasty problems. When you hit a bump and the suspension is really stiff the impact of the bump is transmitted right into the chassis. You could easily bend your lower control arms.

hmmm okay okay ....

I'm going to try the .920 bars...
These are not the biggest bars available, but they are going to be stiffer than the one I presently have. It should work perfectly.

Thanks

if you want th e low stance..get the dropped spindals
youll still have all the proper supension sweep.
and your front end geometry will be better with out the bump steer ,,you will definately have with the unwound
t bar to lower the lca and ride height.
on the bars id say with a big block go with the bigger bars...ive driven a car with the .890 bars.. 69 dart 440 street car only......
i drove it about 150 miles some highway some normal road conditions... it was adiquate...i wouldnt say it was stiff ...if it had a front sway bar..i might have said it was fine..
it was an auto car with larger street brake upgrade..and 15x7 rims on bfg regular radial pass tires..
hard breaking...it did have some nose dive...
but it didtn have adj. shocks...that might have made a biger difference,,,some increased compression dampening might have been enough to fix this...
i will say he had poly lca and uca but the rest was stock joints..
.it did have a little thumpie-ness going over expansion joints on concrete roads..
it was a manual stock old mpar steering box with the slow ratio
fwiw.

Thanks a lot for the answer cheapst,

I didn't know that I could put dropped spindles ...

That would be a better idea than to put bigger torsion bars...

Where can I buy those dropped spindles ?

Also if your problems is header clearance then get a set of TTI headers that will solve your problem.

The TTI headers would have a greater clearance under the car vs my cheap hookers ?

yes - they will not hit like the cheaper herders.

they stop and handle alot better then the /6 bars I had

Its difficult to say genuinely. Most regular headers I've seen for mopars are sorely missing in the floor approval division. I think that if you go too firm on a difficult street you are welcoming some other particularly unpleasant issues. When you hit a push and the revocation is really firm the effect of the push is passed on right into the framework. You could quickly extend your reduced management hands.
