alternator upgrade?
Well, I have been having problems with my alternator keeping my pickup charged completely... I've got quite a bit of draw being ran off it... including the OEM electric fan of a viper, holley electric fuel pump, msd ignition, all the regular accessories, and a small stereo setup... I had the stock alternator rebuilt up to a 75A alternator... and it just doesnt seem like its charging well enough to run all these accessories. the electric fan really seems to make the biggest difference because its always ran fine when the heater, stereo, radar detector, wipers, and headlights are one... but once its warmed up to kick the electric fan on... then it has always given me problems with it running around 12V or less sometimes even... I'm not sure if i 75A alternator would work good, because this alternator may have been having intermittent problems because the bearing seems to be shot in it.
I was thinking of upgrading to the one-wire setup that powermaster offers... but they don't have much of a warranty, and i noticed they say its a GM10DN case, so i was wondering if i could get an equivalent alternator from napa? I would prefer to buy local if anything. What are my options? And would a new 75A alternator actually be good enough?

after doing some research... as far as stock equipment... Napa has their 60A alternator... I don't think that would be sufficient for all my accessories with the electric fuel pump, fan, msd ignition, and stereo system... do you guys?
I also wanted to note that the electric fan draws about 30A while running on the high speed... and the fuel pump runs about 3A... then the msd ignition draws 1A per 1000 rpm.... the stereo system is gonna be removed, so im not worried about that... I'm pretty sure that thats all the accessories that i have running off it... the electric fan is the main upgrade... im wondering though if the 60A alternator from napa would actually still be plenty? Since i think this alternator has had a bearing problem since i installed the electric fan and has always given me problems... plus, the cost of the alternator through napa is really cheap because i get a hefty employee discount... ? what could one estimate that all the stock accessories draw?

Check with Mancini racing. They think they have a bracket kit for adapting to the newer style nippondenso alternators. I think those are 100+ amp units...

No matter what if you upgrade to a 100+ amp alternator you need to bypass the factory amp meter:

You could also get a constant output voltage regulator instead of the factory style that floats around....my car stays constant at 13.5V no matter what. Tuff Stuff makes a 100 amp alternator that uses the old style case like you are looking for.

the factory amp meter has long been bypassed... It's got a custom dash and autometer gauges with a voltmeter now... and also, thats the thing... I think I need a 100 amp alternator, but i dont know if i really do need that heavy of alternator?

 I use the 105 amp nipp alt on my race truck and my volt meter is always right at 14 volts and i never charge my battery between races.

Alternators are like engines always better to have a bigger one. If you need 80 amps then get a 100 amp alternator.....no sense in maxing it out.

hey D100 do you have a picture of your alt...?
do you know the application (vehicle it originated)
i am curious as to what it looks like ..i want to upgrade my alt..
was it hard to mount/line up?

Cheap...I think Mancini sells a kit for around $200 that has the mounts and the Nipo alternator.

I'll get you a pic this weekend Cheap I have to pull the truck out of the trailer to install new headers this weekend. i bought the mounting bracket from Mancini and had my electrical supplier comp me on an alt. The part # is a 13823 that's a lester # and rated at 117 amps.
